Highlights

  • Omental, myometrial, or placental biopsies were obtained with informed consent from normotensive women with uncomplicated pregnancies and hypertensive women with a clinical diagnosis of preeclampsia

  • The characteristics of 164 healthy, normotensive pregnant women and 35 women with preeclampsia included in this study are shown in the Table

  • The prorelaxant effect of kynurenine is confirmed in human arteries and our study provides further translational impetus as we have included a wellcharacterized cohort of women with preeclampsia
