Abstract

The purpose of this study is to discuss the influence of KWHL-Impregnated e-learning teaching on the learning achievement of the unit “Plants’ body” for the 3rd graders in elementary school based on the results of the e-learning material, Plant Structures. The subjects of the research are two classes in the 3rd grade in an elementary school in Taipei City. One is the experimental group, whose homeroom teacher is the researcher, the other the control group. Both groups took pre-tests and post-tests. The self planned research(?) tools include learning achievement test on Plants’ Body and Meta-Cognition Ability Scale and e-learning website. The data-analyzing methods include analysis of variance and covariance. The followings are the main results of this research: 1. Learning achievement test of the Plant’s Body taken by experimental group demonstrates that the research performance reaches the significant level. The concept dimensions of “Plant's Distinguish” and “Plant's Structure” reach the significant level. It indicates that KWHL-Impregnated E-learning Teaching contributes to the improvement of the elementary school students’ learning achievement on the concept of plant structure. 2. Students in the experimental group can clear more misconceptions and study effectively. Concept learning of the elementary school students improves effectively. In addition to learning the basic concepts, students may understand by analogy. Students can not only clarify their ideas, but extend their learning areas and obtain the best learning effect. 3. The Meta-Cognition Ability Scale and the four subordinate items, including planning, monitoring, regulation and evaluation of the experimental group indicate that the research performance is efficient. It can therefore be inferred that KWHL-Impregnated e-learning teaching contributes to the improvement of the elementary school students’ meta-cognition ability. After the instruction, students have meta-cognition abilities such as planning, awareness, planning, deciding, regulation, tactics, checking up, estimating, and evaluation, etc.
