Abstract

Building on previous articles about Japanese prisoners in post‐World War II Soviet captivity, Kuznetsov reveals the fate of the Japanese generals captured by the Soviets in August 1945. Drawing on extensive archival materials, as well as research in Japan, this article fills yet another historical ‘black hole’. In so doing, Kuznetsov demonstrates the degree to which hitherto unanswerable questions can and are being answered.
