Abstract

I believe that an answer to Dr. Spodick could be better formulated if bis very pertinent and interesting comments pertaining to both Kussmaul's sign and the lack of ST-segment elevation were referenced. We are well aware of the interesting observations of Dornhorst et al1 and the more recent work of Shabetai et al2,3 supporting the concept that there is a continued inspiratory increase of filling on the right side of the heart during tamponade, raising the intrapericardial pressure and thus diminishing filling on the left side of the heart This recent work gave experimental support to the suggestion of Dornhorst et al1 made in 1952.
