Abstract

Medreses are the most important educational institutions for Muslim societies. Being the first systematic educational institutions, Medreses were established by Nizamulmulk at Great Seljuks era under the name of medrese of Nizâmiye. In this study, the lecturers and pupils of medrese of Nizâmiye are to be dealt with. And answers to the following questions are also to be sought: Who are the well-known lecturers of Medrese of Nizâmiye? Which students studied there and then became a lecturer at the same medrese? What are the terms and conditions of being a lecturer? Who can be a lecturer? Who decides to promote, appoint or downgrade the lecturers? What are the characteristics of medrese of Nizâmiye foundation? How do their programmes work? What kind of contribution did they make to the Muslim World?
