Abstract

It goes without saying that the term vahy (revelation) is one of the leading terms in religious rhetoric. This articles scrutinizes such Quranic terms as vahy, kitab, tanzil, ruh, amr, etc., on the one hand, and tries to shed light on the concept of Angel or Gabriel conveying the vahy to the prophet on the other. As there is an ontological gap between God and man, the divine communication occurs not but through a mediator, i.e. an angel. So the direct speaking or communicating God is beyond the power of the prophets. They are just the receivers of the divine message. In order to make them capable of receiving this extraordinary message, a kind of capacity is gifted to the prophets, which make them different from others. This capacity is mostly activated through malak or Gabriel, the detail of whom is elucidated in this paper.
