Abstract

Preference of a belief, freedom of religion, belief and thought has been one of the important issues of the human agenda since before now. It can be said that this issue is more cared about and has maintained to be relevant in this globalised world. In previous centuries, humanity was exposed to many wars and grieves for the sake of imposing a belief, sect or thought. We, nowadays, witness such social polarizations in some regions as well. It is observed that the members of some certain beliefs and sects have the tendency to see all kinds of violence to the ones against them permissible since they look at them as the others. Within this scope, apostasy, which we can define as choosing Islam as their religion and then apostatising it, the case of apostates, their punishments and what sort of treatment they will receive has been discussed; and various opinions have been put forward on this matter all along. In this manuscript, in spite of the dominant opinion that the apostate had no right to live during classical times, it is aimed to investigate how the issue should be approached from the perspective of Qur’anic verses.
