Abstract

The Swiss musicologist Robert-Aloys Mooser (1876–1969) was one of the most accomplished connoisseurs of Russian/Soviet musical life. He published numerous works on Russian and Soviet music history, which are still among the standard works. Based on his legacy and his correspondence, which are housed in the libraries of Geneva and Basel, this article illuminates Mooser's function as cross-cultural mediator between West and East before and during World War II.
