Abstract

This research aims to empirically examine the relationship among teachers' work experience, teachers' educational background, the number of the students in the class and the selection of the logic of message design used by mathematics teachers at SMP/MTs. This research is designed to gain information and understanding of the ways of thinking of the mathematics teachers at SMP/MTs when they construct verbal messages to their students. The samples of this research were chosen by using purposive-sampling technique from the mathematics teachers at SMP/MTs in Surabaya City and Sidoarjo Regency. By using this technique, the researcher found out 8 teachers teaching at SMP Negeri 2 Sukodono, SMP Budi Sejati Surabaya, MTs Negeri Krian, and MTs Jabal Nur Sepanjang. The data were collected through many ways, such as: participated observation, interviews, documentation, and the use of audio-visual devices. This research suggests that there is no relationship among teachers' work experience, teachers' educational background, the number of the students in the class and the selection of the logic of message design used in the communication style.
