Abstract

The design and performance of the planar antenna having high efficiency and excellent cross polarization isolation for the consumer use are described. The antenna is mainly composed of microstrip radiating elements and the triplate feeder line. It is constructed with foam dielectric spacers and the flexible printed circuit board between two metal sheets. The radiating element is built by the microstrip patch arranged corresponding to the aperture on a metal sheet to obtain high efficient radiation. The triplate feeder line is used to reduce feeder line losses. In order to improve the degradation of cross polarization due to the undesired radiation caused by the discontinuity between two kinds of planar lines, the unbalanced power in the amplitude and the phase are fed to two orthogonal feed points for patch. Both of linearly and circularly polarized Ku band arrays are examined. The design concept and experimental results of them are shown.
