Abstract

Pancreatic insulinoma is the most common pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor. Most insulinomas are sporadic, benign and most respond well with surgical treatment. Laparoscopic surgery helps improving cosmetic results and reducing the duration of hospital stay, while having a similar rate of complication, in comparison with open surgery. Intraoperative ultrasonography (IOUS) is said to aid in accurate localisation, decreases morbidity. In the absence of IOUS, error of judgement may lead to conversion to open surgery, however in Bach Mai hospital. Currently, there is no IOUS in surgery at Bach Mai hospital. We reported 6 cases with insulinoma treated with laparoscopic surgery (total laparoscopy or laparoscopy-assisted) without IOUS. From this case series, it can be concluded that laparoscopic surgery in absence of IOUS is a feasible and safe method for the treatment of pancreatic insulinoma.
