Abstract

Floods – and generally the risk of harmful surplus and lack of water – are among the top environmental safety risks in Hungary. In my paper I deal with the environmental safety issues of the Raba River Valley. Its topicality is provided by a currently runningcross-border hydrological-flood protection development project. The project aims at defining the extent of valley inundations with real-time forecasting at the Hungarian section of the river. Model results can provide adequate support for disaster management emergency planning and security measures, such as protection of villages on open floodplain and general flood protection measures.
