Abstract

AbstractSegmented polyurethane elastomers, when stretched for the first time from the isotropic state, show cross interferences in small angle X‐ray scattering, characterized by an orientation angle which is practically independent of the stretching ratio. This is due to a slip mechanism of plate‐like hard‐segment domains combined with an adjustment of the chain cross sections of hard and soft segments. Furthermore, partial chain folding and, following the hypothesis of force strands, an inhomogeneous deformation process has to be taken into account.
