Abstract

One of the most prominent sources for the Early Ottoman History, History of Âşıkpaşazâde and its author Derviş Ahmed Âşıkî remain current in contemporary history research. Two different publications of this History in recent years and some other works written as graduate and dissertation works demonstrate the actuality of this historical source. This paper reevaluates the biography of the author, reviews and criticizes the engrained information which has been unfortunately repeated without further examination and make some important corrections and contributions. Investigating the biographical information derived from the work of Âşıkpaşazâde, questioning the various claims about his dates of birth and death, detecting his Sufi lodge as a dervish and identifying his family members (except the known daughter Rabia and his groom Seyyid Velâyet) are the main topics of this paper. The most important historical document presented in this paper is certainly the one which has been written and signed personally by Âşıkpaşazâde and presented to Beyazid II. This document is being published for the first time in this paper for researchers, additionally the original image of the document is added.
