Abstract
From the beginning of its mission, the Roman Catholic Church in Kresy was inseparable from Poland, the Polish nation and Polish culture. At present, at the time of the progress of secularization of culture and the distance of church structures in Eastern European countries from their Polish cultural roots, it is worth recalling the sources of the Church's identity and certain regularities that ensured its duration and success in the evangelizing mission. A clear interpretation of the relationship between the Church and cultural tradition is provided by St. John Paul II, the whole history of the Church in the borderlands. Centuries of experience allow us to state that Catholicism was a defender of Polishness, and Polishness was a proven area of the Church's existence.
