Abstract

AbstractCorrelation between leaf anatomy and distribution of the endemic Echium species in Tenerife (Canary Islands)In studying the leaf anatomy of autochthonous species in the genus Echium on Tenerife it is shown that the occurrence of particular anatomical and morphological structures correlate in a large degree with the climatic conditions in the single vegetation zones. This is clearly recognisable in the formation on the “indumentum” which coincides with other leaf‐characteristics. In addition it could find out that the species with a wider distribution show a higher degree of intraspecific variability concerning the leaves mutually depending from the environmental factors.
