Abstract

Abstract : This article aims to describe the family life of PLWHA (People with HIV & AIDS) in Surabaya and to analyze the concept of the Sakinah family from the perspective of social construction theory. This article belongs to doctrinal law research using a case approach. The results of this study indicate that the family life of PLWHA in Surabaya is included in the category of Sakinah families II. They carry out legal marriages, fulfill all their needs, and also understand the importance of implementing religious teachings. This concept arises from the social construction built in three stages. First, the externalization stage, the adjustment of PLWHA households with their family conditions against the stigma of society. Second, the objectivation stage is the awareness that PLWHA households can realize a sakinah family with various protection efforts for family members, the importance of access to related institutions, the awareness of wives’ role in supporting the family, and the awareness of the importance of keeping their status secret. Third, the internalization stage resulted in the concept of a sakinah family with several different efforts according to PLWHA whose husbands work in Plato and who do not. Households with family heads working in Plato are more likely to live a healthy lifestyle for PLWHA. Keywords: happy family; marriage; HIV Aids.
