Abstract

ABSTRACTThis article reveals and reviews the degree to which and in what aspects, the significant Greek director, Karolos Koun, was influenced and inspired by the writings of Konstantin Stanislavski and the accomplishments of the Moscow Art Theatre. It presents a brief overview of Koun’s Theatro Technis history and its endeavours. It argues that Stanislavski had a significant impact on Koun in relation to the concepts of ensemble, the pedagogical approach to actors and the inclusion of contemporary Greek and international writers in his company’s repertoire. Both directors insisted on the social and artistic importance of theatre, which Koun developed as a theatre with a mission.
