Abstract

Within the discussion of popular narratives that place the idea of ‘peace’ at their core, stories about fictional superheroes seem to be a potentially ideal area for scientific exploration. However, when delving into the specificity of selected comic book, film and TV series examples, it turns out that the issue of the ‘peace-centricity’ of this type of story requires a more in-depth reflection, going beyond the often naive ideas about the actual ideological content present here. A perfect example of this type of reflection is a fictional character nicknamed Peacemaker, whose transmedia incarnations accurately illustrate the complex status of the superhero mission as a ‘fight for peace’.
