Abstract

Abstract Various properties of Sm 4 X 3 (X=As, Sb and Bi) were measured. The results indicate that Sm 4 Sb 3 and Sm 4 As 3 are dense Kondo systems with the unoccupied 4f levels very close to the Fermi energy. They show the ferromagnetic transition at 160 K but with very small moment preserving the Kondo character. Under pressure the valence mixing Sm 4 Bi 3 is transformed to the dense Kondo system which is very similar to the above two materials. They are the first typical dense Kondo systems in Sm-compounds.
