Abstract

The Ce(Cu1–xNix)4Al series of compounds has been studied for 0 <x < 1. The physical properties have been determined by X-ray diffraction, magnetometric, specific heat and electrical resistivity measurements. It is observed that the monotonic change of the unit cell volume is accompanied by the change of the magnetic and thermodynamic parameters. The transition from the Kondo lattice to the fluctuating valence (FV) state is observed without the dilution of Ce but by the increase of x, which is accompanied by the decrease of the electronic specific heat coefficient, increase of the splitting of the crystal field levels and damping of the resistivity maximum.
