Abstract

(picH)2Mo2I6(H2O)2 was prepared from (picH)2Mo2Br6(H2O)2 in HI solutions (picH=4-methylpyridineum cation). This compound reacts with pyridine and 4-methylpyridine at 80°C giving Mo2I4L4. Both products are starting materials for the preparation of Mo2I4(NH3)4 and Mo2I4bipy2 (bipy=2,2′-bipyridine). Room temperature magnetic measurements, IR spectra, X-ray diffraction, chemical evidence and thermogravimetric analysis in part were used for the identification of the new compounds.
