Abstract
The present article is based on the workshop “Translators’ Materials in the Archives” held at the XVIII KäTu Symposium on Translation and Interpreting Studies, University of Helsinki, 21 May 2021. The article focuses on the types of material related to translation available in the archival collection of literature and cultural history of the Finnish Literature Society (SKS), and the diverse existing search aids. The aim of the article is to lower the threshold for researchers and translators to make use of archives and thus gain new perspectives on their own work. The article introduces archival material related to translation at a general level. Moreover, it examines what archive catalogues can tell researchers interested in translation and discusses the special features of archival material as research sources. The many-sided archives of two poets and translators, Otto Manninen (1872–1950) and Juhani Siljo (1888–1918), are used in the article as illustrative examples.
