Abstract

STIs among adolescents (ADOs) have become an increasing problem in the US. Though ADOs comprise only 25% of the sexually active (SA) population, they account for 48% of STIs acquired annually and studies indicate that teens lack knowledge about STIs. We designed this study to assess the degree of knowledge about STIs among ADO females. We hypothesized that the level of knowledge about all STIs would be low, but knowledge of common STIs would be slightly better. In addition, we hypothesized that teens with more knowledge about STIs would indicate personally practicing safer sex and increased knowledge of STIs would correlate with increased educational access (EA).
