Abstract
Abstract The application of KBS in the product generation process within SIEMENS Corp. in Germany is described with examples of running systems and of work in progress. The reasons for the slow increase of KBS applications in the last years and learned lectures of past KBS projects are discussed. Some challenges on knowledge processing are treated, e.g. efficient knowledge acquisiton and, in more detail, knowledge management tasks like knowledge analysis, effective use of distributed knowledge and the reuse of knowledge bases. Finally possible effects of KBS in organizational production changes are discussed
