Abstract

Abstract In this paper, we analyze how regulations are arranged and implemented in a knowledge-based system (KBS) to provide for ease of use, modification and addition of new regulations. The IDEAL methodology was used to achieve this objective. Different common agricultural policy (CAP) grants to which farmers in Spain are entitled were considered to validate the model. The system is a query system and the end users are specialists from the Agricultural Extension Services (AES). The system has been implemented using the tool Kappa-PC, V. 2.3. The prototype was developed jointly with the Universidad Politecnica de Madrid's Departments of Artificial Intelligence, Rural Projects and Planning and Mathematics Applied to Agronomy and the Castile and Leon Government's Provincial Agriculture Office in Segovia.
