Abstract

Objective: To assess knowledge regarding insulin self-administration among diabetic patients in Baghdad City. Methodology: This descriptive cross-sectional study included a sample of 90 patients with diabetes mellitus on insulin therapy attending clinic of outpatients at National Diabetes Center of Al-Mustansiriya University and Specialized Center for Endocrine Disorders and Diabetes in Al-Russafa Health Directorate. The data were collected from March 15 to April 30, 2021. Results: The study’s participants had average information about diabetes, insulin and insulin self-administration. They got information from health personnel, personal experience, relatives, and internet. More than half of participants (53.3%) had normal level of knowledge about insulin self-administration. Conclusion: This study showed differences in patients’ knowledge about insulin self-administration. Focusing on their knowledge's improvement is essential to enhance their practice. Health education must be provided by physicians through counselling patients at each follow up visit.
