Abstract
A sample of 27 patients (mean age 69 years) took part in interviews to explore their understanding of chronic heart failure and to investigate their need for information. Their answers indicated that they tended to attribute their condition to advancing age and believed that little could be done about their symptoms. Many had questions about their illness that they felt unable to ask their doctors, and some wanted frank information about their prognosis. 16 references.
