Abstract

This paper describes the development of knowledge acquisition strategies for computing systems that aid designers in the construction of intelligent, heterogeneous, dynamic computational models of the built environment. The project uses a structure–behaviour–function model of the environment. The modelling strategy uses Virtual Reality Modelling Language (VRML) as a prototyping tool for constructing the built environment models. Unified Modelling Language (UML), a visual object oriented modelling language, is used in a reverse engineering mode as part of the knowledge acquisition strategy.
