Abstract

Institutions of higher education often set their focus on Clery Act crime reporting and classification but fail to account for the equally important Clery Act requirements that guide policy response and action, according to Sarah Barrett, Ph.D., Director of Training and Education at the Clery Center. Barrett, along with Laura Egan, Senior Director of Programs at the Clery Center, shared best practices for Clery Act compliance during a webinar series with Rave Mobile Safety. They offered guidance for determining which type of campus alert or notification to deploy, as required by the Clery Act, along with how to determine communication action plans ahead of time to ensure compliance, and finally, how to use your Clery compliance documents and notifications to raise awareness on your campus of the important work being done to keep your campus safe.
