Abstract

Robotic surgery has made it possible for an increasing number of surgeons to convert to minimal invasive surgery especially for technically challenging surgeries such as laparoscopic myomectomy.A limiting step to robotic myomectomy is removing large leiomyomata through minimal incisions. Increasing number of studies have shown that electrical morcellation of leiomyomata may result in pelvic seeding of morcellated tissue which may lead to recurrent pelvic leiomyomatosis requiring further surgery.Surgeons should take measures to prevent pelvic seeding at the time of morcellation.In order to limit the possibility of pelvic seeding after robotic removal of large leiomyomatas we present our technique of knife assisted robotic myomectomy.
