Abstract

Abstract Kleptoparasitism is a common behavior in birds, and seems to be widespread among Ciconiiforms, both intra and interspecifically. Between 20 - 23July 2005, two observations were made of a Great Kiskadee (Pitangus sulphuratus) stealing prey from a Little Blue Heron (Egretta caerulea) in a feeding aggregation on a mudflat in Cananeia, southwestern Brazil. On the two occasions, a Great Kiskadee left a perch to take decapod prey from the heron's bill during a brief hover.
