Abstract

In addition to musical education at the Paris Conservatoire, private piano lessons aimed at the children of wealthy citizens of the city established themselves in the course of the nineteenth century. Renowned piano professors such as Antoine-Francois Marmontel and Felix Le Couppey published quite idealistic pedagogical guides for piano teachers. Apart from this, there are texts that comment on the reality of teaching.
