Abstract

Kinetic and thermodynamic aspects of the high-pressure copolymerization of ethene and (meth)acrylic acid(esters) have been studied in wide ranges of temperature and pressure. Reactivity ratios and their temperature dependance for various (meth)acrylic acidesters were determined.Cloud-point pressures for mixtures of ethene and ethene-(meth)acrylic acid(ester) and partly methacrylic acidester monomer have been measured to maximum pressuresof 3 kbar with an optical high-pressure cell and in addition with a continous method direct after synthesis. The experimental data are modeled with the Perturbed-Chain-SAFT equation of state. Usingindependently obtained pure-component parameters and only one (fitted) binary interaction parameter the EOS showed a satisfying representation of the experimental results. Moreover the PC-SAFT modeling was suitable to describe the effect of polymer molecular weight on cloud-point pressure.
