Abstract

1. The rate constants and parameters of the Arrhenius equation were determined for alkaline and neutral aqueous hydrolysis ofα-substituted dialkylphosphinic esters of phenol. 2. The reactivity decreases as theα-substituents at the alkyl radicals are changed in the series Cl > Br>I> CH3. 3. The rate constants of both reactions are correlated with the Taft induction constants σ* of the substituents at the phosphorus. 4. The mechanism of hydrolysis reactions is discussed.
