Abstract

1. An investigation was made of the kinetics of the hydrogenation of benzoyl peroxide and of tert-butyl peroxybenzoate over nickel and of 2-cyclohexen-1-yl hydroperoxide over nickel, palladium, and platinum. 2. It was shown that. in presence of nickel, first the peroxide group is hydrogenated, and then the double bond. This is in accord with deductions from the multiplet theory. The same sequence is observed over palladium and platinum. 3. Determinations were made of reaction order, rate constant, and activation energy for these processes. 4. The hydrogenation of peroxy compounds can serve as a catalytic method of preparing unsaturated alcohols.
