Abstract

The kinetics of surface crystallization in amorphous Fe 78 Si 9 B 13 ribbons have been studied using Mössbauer spectroscopy. The activation energy for surface crystallization is found to be 335 kJ mol −1 , which is much less than that for the bulk crystallization. Conversion electron Mössbauer spectroscopy reveals that a higher topological disorder and a local change in the composition at the surface are the possible causes of reduced surface stability.
