Abstract

The kinetics of sulfuric acid breakdown of beryl activated by fusion with sodium carbonate was studied. The apparent activation energy of sulfation of beryl subjected to breakdown by fusion with sodium carbonate was determined (Eapp = 7.9 kJ mol–1). This value of Eapp indicates that the sulfation of activated beryl is controlled by the diffusion of acid molecules to the reaction surface through the layer of the reaction products formed. The kinetic relationships found allow optimization of the conditions for sulfuric acid breakdown of activated beryl.
