Abstract

The kinetics of the oxidation of the dimer Mo(V) cation Mo/sub 2/O/sub 4//sup 2 +/ by Fe(H/sub 2/O)/sub 6//sup 3 +/ and Fe(phen)/sub 3//sup 3 +/ in aqueous solution have been studied at 25/sub 0/C, ionic strength I = 2.0 M (NaClO/sub 4/), by conventional spectrophotometry. In both systems the rate of reaction is first order in reductant and oxidant and thus indicates that the first electron-transfer step is rate determining for the overall process. 30 references, 3 tables.
