Abstract
The kinetics of the liquid-phase hydrogenation of 2,4-dimethylnitrobenzene to 2,4-dimethylaniline was studied in the absence of solvent with 5% Pd/C as a catalyst in the temperature and pressure ranges of 40 to 80/sup 0/C and 6 to 100 bar, respectively. The intrinsic kinetics can be described by a Langmuir-Hinshelwood model with noncompetitive adsorption of organic species and hydrogen on the catalyst surface. The extent of internal and external mass transfer effects was estimated and found not to appreciably influence the overall kinetics.
