Abstract

Abstract The kinetics of the reaction between hydrogen peroxide and gold(III) in a hydrochloric acid medium has been studied. The reaction is first order with respect to [AuIII] as well as [H2O2]. The reaction rate has an inverse dependence on [H+] and [Cl−]. AuCl4−, AuCl3(OH2), and AuCl3(OH)− are the reactive species of Au(III). A rate expression consistent with the experimental findings has been proposed.
