Abstract

The interaction of iodide ion with [RuIII(Hedtra)(H2O)] (Hedtra = N-hydroxyethylethylenediaminetriacetate) was investigated by spectrophotometry, electrochemical and stopped-flow techniques. The rate of formation of a red [RuIII(Hedtra)I]− complex was found to be first order both with respect to [RuIII(Hedtra)(H2O)] and [I−]. Rate and activation parameters are consistent with the proposed associative interchange mechanism. Experimental results are discussed with reference to the data available for other ligand substitutions of the [RuIII(Hedtra)(H2O)] complex.
