Abstract

The reaction is first order in substrate and catalyst and zero order in cerium(IV). The rate decreases with increasing [H+] as well as with increasing ionic strength. ΔH‡ and ΔS‡ have been found to be 44.8 kJ mol−1 and 161.8 JK−1 mol−1 respectively. A mechanism is proposed.
