Abstract

Chromium(VI) oxidation of some alkanols has been studied in perchloric acid medium. The reactions are first order with respect to [substrate] and [HCrO 4 -]. The order with respect to [H +]is between 1 and 2 for all the reactions. The activation parameters of the reactions have been calculated. A mechanism consistent with the above facts has been suggested. An attempt has been made to correlate the rate of the reactions with the structure of the substrates.
