Abstract

The kinetics of epoxidation of acrylic acid by hydrogen peroxide in the presence of sodium tungstate have been studied. The reaction is first order with respect to the substrate and catalyst, but independent of the concentration of hydrogen peroxide. The rate of reaction is pH dependent. The ionic strangth does not affect the rate of reaction. A rate law has been derived in consonance with the mechanism proposed.
