Abstract

In our previous work, 21 pairs of chemical-physical blends were demonstrated to be biphasic solvents with much better comprehensive absorption capacities than 30wt% aqueous monoethanolamine (MEA) solutions.[1] The kinetics rate of CO2 absorption is a key parameter linked to the size of the absorber and the capital expenses. However, this information for novel biphasic solvents are not available. To fill the knowledge gap, in this work, a wetted wall column was used to measure the CO2 absorption rates in the novel biphasic solvents and the comparison with 30wt% MEA solution was made. Besides, the mass transfer mechanism in the gas-liquid interface was calculated by molecular dynamics in this work.
