Abstract
A three-dimensional theory for the kinetics of fast inelastic scattered particles is described. By means of an energy dependent mean first passage time a Brownian motion in parallel momentum space is coupled to the perpendicular motion in energy space. Results for the energy and angular distributions are presented and compared with experiments for Ar and Xe from close-packed metal surfaces.
