Abstract

The free radical copolymerization of styrene with methyl methacrylate was carried out at 60°, using various total concentrations of monomers, up to moderately high conversions. Cumulative copolymer composition was independent of the total monomer concentration, being described satisfactorily by the integrated Mayo-Lewis equation. By application of the penultimate model proposed by Fukuda et al., the theoretical reduced rate of copolymerization as a function of the conversion was determined and compared with values obtained from experimental data.
