Abstract

Using a set of kinetic equations, which take account of the effect of both intra-and extracellular phosphate concentrations, the batch culture production of L-phenylalanine by a hyperproducing mutant of E. coli has been described. Good agreement has been found between the predicted results and experimental data for cell growth, glucose uptake, phosphate uptake and L-phenylalanine production for initial glucose concentrations of 16 and 26 g. L-1. The kinetic model is applicable to conditions for which no substrate inhibition or product inhibition are likely to occur.
