Abstract

There is a growing interest in utilizing CO2 to produce valuable products, which can help mitigate climate change while creating economic benefits. By combining CO2 hydrogenation and cation exchange reaction, a process for simultaneous metal oxide purification and high-value formate production has been developed. The hydrogenation of CO2 was achieved using a Ru/bpyTN-30-CTF catalyst in an aqueous Et3N solution, resulting in the formation of [Et3NH][HCOO]. This compound reacted with CaMgO2, derived from dolomite, to produce the water-soluble product Ca(HCOO)2 and purified MgO. This process reduces global warming potential by 20% compared to traditional Ca(HCOO)2 production methods.
